Pauline L. Methot

Pauline Lillian (Giroux) Methot of Manchester passed away October 4, 2018 after a battle with cancer at the age of 86.

Pauline was born on June 29, 1932 in Manchester, the daughter of the late Gedeon Giroux and Juliette (Talbot) Giroux. Following her graduation from Ste. Marie High School in Manchester, at the age of 16, she enlisted into the Navy. During her four-year military service, she earned her associates degree in Medical Technology from Rivier College in Nashua. Upon graduation, she was stationed at the Chelsea Naval Hospital. After an honorable discharge, she went to work at Notre Dame hospital in Manchester, now called CMC. In May of 1956 she married Gerard "Gerry" Methot and lived in Manchester for their entire 62-year marriage. Pauline took the role of motherhood seriously and stayed home to raise their family. Once her "baby" was in high school, she went back into the workforce as a manager of Varney School Apartments, an elderly housing facility in Manchester. She worked there for 11 years earning a distinguished commendation in 1994 for "community service for the elderly" from Mayor Raymond Wieczorek. Community service was at the forefront of Pauline's life as she served on various committees throughout the years. In the 70's, Pauline served a term as selectman in Manchester, as well as on the Manchester Board of Education and a translator for Rosetta Stone. Pauline was an active member in various groups at Ste. Marie's Parish such as the Education Committee, Catholic War Veteran's Axillary (CWVA), and the Ladies of Sainte Anne Society. Pauline was distinguished in the CWVA earning the President's Award and the Stella Luzsko Award for community service and likewise earned the Sainte Anne Award, the society's highest honor, again for service that benefited the community. As many of the French in Manchester, she identified herself as a "F.R.O.G." meaning "Former Resident of Gaul" (i.e. France). With her heritage in mind, Pauline collected frog items and many family and friends contributed to her extensive collection. Tracing her ancestry, Pauline authored 20 genealogy books for the Southern NH Catholic Parishes and became a Lifetime Member of the American-Canadian Genealogical Society where she also served as director. She was an active member in the local and state-wide Girl Scouts, first as a leader, then as a trainer of future Girl Scout leaders. Pauline was an avid reader and enjoyed participating with her singing group the Elliot "Voluntaires" with performances at various nursing homes in the Manchester area. She took pride as the only female bass singer.

Pauline is survived by her husband, Gerard Methot as well as her children, Eugene Methot, Julien Methot, Daniel Methot and his wife Theresa (McMahon), Gilbert Methot and his wife Barbara (French), lastly her daughter Michelle Demerjian and her husband Jim. Pauline was a grandmother to seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by one brother, Roger Giroux and his wife Gail (Gagnon). She is predeceased by her younger siblings Gerald Giroux, Reverend Richard Giroux and Constance Giroux.

Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave, Manchester, on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM in Ste. Marie Church. Committal service with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
