Philip J. Mulkhey

Philip J. Mulkhey, 86, of Loudon, NH died Sunday, March 31, 2024, following a short period of declining health, with loved ones by his side.

Philip was born in Loudon on March 12, 1938, to Joseph and Bertha (Marston) Mulkhey. He lived his entire life in Loudon, graduating from Concord High School and earning an Associate Degree from Concord School of Business. He was a skilled builder and carpenter, building his own home in 1960, as well as many other homes around Locke Lake while working for RC Foss. Respectfully described by his family as a “jack of all trades”, Philip’s professional career spanned multiple fields. He was co-owner of B&M Plumbing as well as the Yankee Country Store in Loudon, he served as Postmaster for the Loudon Post Office, and most recently worked in maintenance with Keystone Management in Concord. He also became quite adept at replacing the windows in his home and vehicles over the years, courtesy of his kids’ and grandkids’ poor aim. Philip was known for his frugality and belief that everything has value, always finding a way to repair a broken item rather than replacing it with something new. As a member of the Studebaker Club of NH, he had a passion for old cars and won many awards at Loudon Old Home Day celebrations. Though Philips interests were many, his greatest love was his family. From watching Saturday morning cartoons with his grandchildren to simply spending time talking and laughing with loved ones, he was never happier than when he was in the company of the family he created. A humble, all-around good guy, Philip never wanted to stand out in a crowd, but his work ethic, kind heart, and the simple fact that he was loved by every person and animal he crossed paths with set him apart from all the rest.

Philip is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia (Page) Mulkhey; daughters Melissa Abbott and husband Michael of Loudon and Michelle Parker of Loudon; son Shawn Mulkhey and wife Michelle of Loudon; brother Melvin “Big Mick” Mulkhey and wife Dorothy of Loudon; sister Eileen Cummings of Loudon; grandchildren Jason Landry of Loudon, Talia Madensky and husband Daniel of Hooksett, Nathan Munson and wife Christine of Hooksett, Joseph Mulkhey and wife Destini of Dover, Jeremy Mulkhey and partner John of Maine, and Harleigh Parker and husband Jared of Loudon; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and countless dear friends. In addition to his parents, Philip was predeceased by his infant son Peter; his sister Ellen Chesley; and his brother Joseph Mulkhey.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held at 11:00am Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Mount Hope Cemetery on Church Street in Loudon. In lieu of flowers, donations be made in Philip’s memory to Granite VNA Hospice House, 30 Pillsbury St, Concord, NH 03301, or online at https://www.granitevna.org/ .
