Philip John Lombardo passed away on November 18, 2014 at home. Born on August 9, 1931 in Boston, Phil was predeceased by his parents Liborio Lombardo and Filippa (Ciulla) Lombardo, his brother Frank Lombardo and his sister Lucy (Desaulnier).
When he was 14 years old, his parents and his 4 siblings moved to Manchester New Hampshire when the company that his parents worked for relocated to Manchester.
Serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, he was stationed in South Korea where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller, he also played football, baseball and even boxed a little while in the service. Although he was only 5'4" he would often say about that time "I loved tackling the big guys, they would fall harder". Returning to Manchester he worked odd jobs until there was an opening at Hanscom Field in Bedford MA as an Air Traffic Controller and where he eventually raised his family. Later on Phil worked out of his home in a printing and office supply company with his brother Cy.
Always quick with a joke or smile, Phil was a glass half full person, always looking at the positive in people, never one to say anything negative about other people and looking for the silver lining in all situations.
He enjoyed sun rise especially at the beach, listening to birds, blue hydrangeas, most music and playing board games or cards where he taught 'hearts' and 'spades' to his boys.
He loved all New England sports especially the Red Sox and the Patriots and each time a home team won a championship he would say "I never thought I would see it in my lifetime, now I can die happy and go to heaven".
Most favorite activity was gambling whether it was a simple 'scratch ticket', guessing the total of a meal check at a restaurant, poker with friends, to playing a 5 card draw double down slot machine in the casino.
The loves of his life was his family. He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Wendy, his much loved sons Steven of Maryland and Phil Jr. Of Washington, D.C., two daughters (by marriage) Victoria (Tori) and Amanda as well as 6 wonderful grandchildren Stephen (Parker), Elizabeth, John who is named after Phil (Holden) children of Steven and Tori; Nathaniel, William and Abigail the children of Phil Jr. And Amanda.
