Philip Andrew Payette passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, NH with his loving wife and daughter by his side. He was born on September 15, 1941, to parents, Joseph and Marion Payette (Berwick). He was the husband of Annie Payette (Locklear); they were married on July 25, 1958, at the Community Church of Christ in Franconia, NH. Annie was the love of his life and when they met, Philip immediately knew Annie would be the woman he would marry. They just celebrated 68 years of marriage before his passing.
Growing up in NH, he attended the Dow School Academy from K-11th grade before graduating from Bethlehem High School. Following graduation, he began a 30-year career with the NH Department of Transportation as a heavy-duty mechanic. Philip had a lifelong passion for anything with an engine and shared his expertise by working at several local garages throughout the years. His exceptional mechanical knowledge and meticulous attention to detail earned him the respect of coworkers and friends.
Philip, alongside Billy Mead, started the Franconia EMT squad. Philip proudly served the town of Franconia as both an EMT and firefighter, answering the call to help his neighbors whenever duty required. He served 55 years on the Franconia Fire Department. He was also a faithful member of the Community Church of Christ. Philip found his greatest joy in spending time outdoors and with his family. His most cherished memories were made taking his children boating and water-skiing during summer and ice skating and skiing during winter. He will be remembered for his steady hands, generous spirit, and the countless lives he touched through his work, service, and love for his family.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Paula Giacobbe, grandson, Thomas Giacobbe and his aunt, Myra Brooks.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Payette, daughter, Karen Payette, son, Ralph Payette, and eight grandchildren: Jeanne, Josh, Joey, Lindsey, Mat, Elizabeth, Danielle, and Dominique. He is also survived by two cousins: Joyce and Barbara as well as many great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held beginning at 2PM at the Community Church of Christ on Saturday, August 8th. Burial will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery. After Philip is laid to rest, the family invites all to attend a reception at the Community Church of Christ to share food, stories, and memories.
Assisting the family with burial arrangements is Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium.
