Phyllis Marie Jenkins, 95, of Bow passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, December 4, 2021, following a very brief illness.
Phyllis was born in Island Falls, ME February 18, 1926, to Tom and Christine (Johnson) Donham. She was educated in areas schools and attended both University of Maine Orono and Husson University. Though she was primarily a skilled and loving homemaker, Phyllis also worked outside the home. In the 40s, shortly after college, she worked at the Concord Monitor. She soon moved on to work at Mechanic’s Bank where she stayed for many years, and following that, spent ten years in the laboratory at Concord Hospital. She was enthusiastically involved in her children’s lives and supported their activities volunteering with both the Brownies and Girl Scouts, as well as teaching Sunday School. Phyllis and her husband Wesley retired early and spent 30 years together as Snowbirds traveling between their home in Bow and wintering in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Phyllis’ hometown of Island Falls, ME became their summer retreat on Lake Mattawamkeag and as well as Horace Lake in Weare, NH.
Phyllis was a lively and outspoken woman who was fiercely independent and always spoke the truth. She loved to sing and harmonize with her sisters and had an amazing ability to instantly commit lyrics and poems to memory and recite them flawlessly.
Phyllis is survived by her three daughters, Christine Perkins (Lynn) of Warner, Joanne Wood (Edward) of Wilton, and Riva Jenkins-Batchelder of Canterbury. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wesley Jenkins, Jr. and her two dear sisters, Shirley Harrison and Riva Hawkes.
Services will be attended privately.
