Raymond P. Carter

Concord, NH

Raymond Paul Carter (age 86) of Concord, NH died on September 2, 2024 after a long illness. 

He was born in Lynn, MA, son of Alphonse and Rose Courchaine. He moved from Lynnfield, MA to New Hampshire in 1968, living in Bedford, Canterbury and Concord, for much of this time. 

He was a graduate of Tufts University in 1963 and Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (with Honor) in 1968 and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1970. While at Northeastern he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Chi Epsilon, National Honor Society of Civil Engineers. He also received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from New Hampshire College in 1984. He was a registered land surveyor and a Registered Professional Engineer in both New Hampshire and Maine. 

He had a long professional career of 42 years working as a project engineer for Carter and Towers Engineering Corp. in Swampscott, MA; as a project manager for Whitman and Howard of Boston, MA; as Chief Environmental Engineer for the City of Manchester, NH and as the Administrator of Water Quality Bureau for the State of New Hampshire’s Environmental Services. 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eileen C. Carter of Concord, NH; a daughter, Kerry K. Wajer and her husband, Matt; his brother, Joseph D Carter and two sister’s, June O’Neill and Gloria Hubbard. He is also survived by the loves of his life; his grandchildren, Carter Lainie, Spencer Liam, Clay Steven, Burgess, Savannah (Finley) Wajer and his step-grandson, Jackson Wajer. 

He was predeceased by his sisters, Theresa Comeau, Lorraine R. Howell, Claire J. Smith and his brothers, Edward Carter and Johnny Carter.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, 12:00 Noon, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 567 Manchester Road, Auburn, NH 03032. Immediately following the service a memorial reception from 12:30-4:30pm will be held at Ray’s daughter Kerry’s home at 24 Nolls Farm Road, Auburn, NH 03032. Ray’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Blossom Hill Cemetery, 207 North State Street, Concord, NH in a private ceremony. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Food Pantry of St. Paul’s Church, Concord, NH 03301.
