Raymond “Ray” T. Lazott, Sr., 91, died on April 28th, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born on December 24, 1932 in Manchester, NH, the son of Marguerite (Foster) and Carl Lazott.
Ray proudly served his country as a radio operator on a B-29 during the Korean War, finishing high school early to enlist with the NHANG. He later attended UNH before working at the Telephone Company for 38 years as an engineer and operations manager. When he wasn’t working or hunting or volunteering, Ray loved to collect milk bottles amongst other things. He never passed by a yard sale willingly and made many good friends with other collectors over the years. He was an accomplished woodworker with an artist’s eye who gifted many framed pictures and furniture to family and friends.
He had many other passions and interests in life that kept him on the go. His joy in gardening started when he planted victory gardens as a child in WWII. His love of pets goes back to when he rode his bike around the neighborhood with his favorite chicken Clara on his handlebars. He would later win many awards for his family garden displays at county fairs and carve names in pumpkins for his grandchildren every year. He was an avid outdoorsman and the stories involving his lifelong friend Joe got better and better with each retelling. He trained his beloved English Setters to retrieve game birds or the family chickens if they escaped. He was a lifetime member of the Pointer Fish and Game Club and served on his local Conservation Commission.
Ray’s greatest pride and joy in life was his wife Grace and their family. He tried to be kind and generous to everyone he knew. His faith in God and Boston sports teams was unshakable and you could set your watch by his daily routines. Born on Christmas Eve, he almost always had birthday presents wrapped in Christmas paper but never complained. We are sure he has already created a to-do list in heaven – good luck with that one, Mom.
Ray was predeceased by his best friend and wife of 67 years Grace “Gracie” Lazott in 2021 and by his brothers Richard Lazott, Robert Lazott, and Jim Lazott and his sisters Dorothy Belanger, Margie Bournival and June McCue. (The family reunion must be amazing!) He is survived by his daughters Kathy Schofield (husband Lucian) and Sharon Robichaud (husband Scot), sons Raymond T. Lazott Jr. (wife Karen) and Thomas Lazott (wife Jennifer), his 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Doris Carreau.
