Raymond M. Smith, 54, of 159 Frederick Street, died October 23, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Manchester on January 19, 1949, the son of Maurice and Yvette (Miville) Smith and had been a lifelong resident of the City. He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1971, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He has been a well known private function DJ in the Manchester area for many years. He was known as "DJ Ray" and he owned A Touch of Class entertainment company. He also was in the real estate business. He was an accomplished pianist. His passion was hiking, especially in Utah where he spent much of his time. He enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Lifestyles singles group and the Ski Wheelers Ski Club. He also belonged to the Appalachian Mountain Club and loved photography. He founded the local chapter of the Scabble Club. Family members include his mother of Manchester; a brother, Gerry Smith of Portsmouth; two sisters, Lorraine Lavalliere of Bedford and Linda Roberts of Raleigh, NC; four nieces and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial gathering will take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Sunday from 3 to 4 PM. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 4:00.
