Regina Ann Sullivan of Bedford, NH, formerly of Andover, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 16, 2023, at the age of 89. Born on February 6,1934, in Medford, MA, Regina was the cherished only child of Regina (Welch) and Francis Fitzpatrick. She was a woman of exceptional grace, distinguished by her statuesque presence and vibrant red curls, embodying an Old Hollywood elegance that set her apart.
Regina’s journey began at Green Mountain College in Vermont. Her career commenced at WBZ TV-Boston as a switchboard operator, where fate intervened in the form of a serendipitous encounter with a film editor on staff, Alfred F. Sullivan. In 1955, Regina and Alfred married, forming a union that spanned 47 years and blessed them with five children, each sharing her distinctive red hair, becoming centerpieces of her world.
Affectionately known as “Mom”, “Tootsie”, and “Gigi”, Regina reigned as the heart of her family, leaving an indelible mark on numerous generations. Her passion for travel and zest for life infused every moment she shared with her loved ones. Whether relishing meals with family and friends or reveling in the joy of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she found immense happiness in these cherished connections.
Because Regina was born an only child, she was determined to fill her adult life surrounded by family and friends. Throughout her life in Lexington and later Andover, MA, Regina upheld a singular tradition: the gathering of her loved ones on Christmas Eve. Her home became a sanctuary for laughter, love, and countless cherished memories as the Sullivan family welcomed an ever-expanding circle of friends into their midst.
Regina’s final hours were a testament to her love for the holiday season. Enveloped by her children and serenaded by school children singing Christmas carols, she received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, surrounded by the warmth of the season she adored.
Blessed with both beauty and robust health, Regina found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether engrossed in the Sunday papers or orchestrating a sumptuous dinner for her family of seven, her unwavering support buoyed her children through diverse endeavors, from film studies to competitive horsemanship, alpine skiing to various sports, fashion, theater, counseling, and global volunteering.
More than a matriarch, Regina was the bedrock of the Sullivan household, extending her hospitality to all who crossed her threshold. Her sharp wit often found its way into thrilling and hysterical true stories from her youth. Regina’s occasional sassiness was eclipsed only by her boundless love, unyielding generosity, and genuine thoughtfulness. Her infectious smile and penchant for creating lasting memories through laughter remain etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Regina was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Alfred F Sullivan who passed away on March 30, 2002. She is survived by her children: Debra (Debbie) Ann Powers and husband Paul Powers of East Hampstead, NH; Barbara Sullivan and life partner Richard Bono of Derry, NH; Barry Francis Sullivan and wife Donna Sullivan of Waxahachie, TX; Alane Regina Sullivan and husband Angelo De Luca of North Andover, MA; Alfred John (AJ) Sullivan and wife Shari Jordan of St. George, UT.
