René G. ''Gil Rainey'' Lemire, 66, of 493 Dearborn Rd, Auburn, died November 2, 2002 at the Elliot Hospital. He was born in Manchester on May 23, 1936, the son of Charles and Berthe (Marquis) Lemire and had been a lifelong resident of the city before moving to Auburn two years ago. He was a well known Manchester area musician and was better known by his stage name, Gil Rainey. He played a number of instruments but focused mainly on reed instruments, vibes, the drums and also sang. He played with many bands throughout his career. He has also belonged to the Army National Guard. Family members include his wife, Faith (Yanez) Lemire; three daughters, Michelle Nye of Colchester, CT, Diane Cheevers of Dunbarton and Carole Lemire-Bowman of St. Louis, MO; two sons, Steven Lemire of Auburn and Jeffrey Yanez of FL; several grandchildren; a sister Lorraine Laroche of Portsmouth; six nephews and nieces and several cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday morning at 11:00. After cremation, inurnment will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford, NH 03110.
