Rhoda Bibby Nason, a resident of Wake Robin, died peacefully on July 1, 2013, following a hip fracture five days earlier. She was born in New York City on Nov. 19, 1924, a daughter of Thomas F.A. Bibby and Dorothy G. Bibby, and younger sister of Audrey and Allen.

She attended the Brearley School in New York City, graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Noroton, Conn., in 1942, and attended Finch Junior College in New York City.In 1944, Rhoda married Alexis Painter Nason from West Haven, Conn. The wedding took place in Brattleboro, where her parents had made their home since 1936. After World War II, the Nasons lived in South Africa, where Mr. Nason was employed as a geologist. Following their return to the United States in 1964, they lived for almost thirty years in Dummerston and Brattleboro, and moved to Shelburne in 1993.During the war, Rhoda worked as a nurse's aide at Bellevue Hospital in New York and then was employed at the American Optical Company in Brattleboro, inspecting lenses for the military. She volunteered over the years in numerous endeavors, helping to set up a daycare center in Kwa Thema township in Springs, South Africa, and working with the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, the Red Cross, and Hospice in Brattleboro. At Wake Robin, she was active in a number of programs, and took a lead in providing transportation to other residents when needed. She was an avid tennis player during her active years, and remained a keen reader to the end.

Rhoda is survived by her husband; her daughter, Sheridan Bartlett of New York City; son, Steven Nason of Tucson, Ariz.; younger daughter, Dorothy Kilcoyne of Sterling, Mass.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 12:00 PM at Dummerston Center Cemetery.
