Richard John [Bud] Abbott, 47, of 82 Nashua Road died February 11, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Hanover on February 17, 1955, the son of Richard H. and Elizabeth (Griswold) Abbott of Lebanon. He grew up in Etna and won awards as a Boy Scout. He attended Hanover School until his family moved to Pike, NH. He graduated from Woodsville, NH High School. He had been a Bedford resident for the past five years. He was a US Army and Air Force Veteran. He was an auctioneer and ran Abbotts Auctions in Amherst and Manchester and did many benefit auctions in his area. Mr. Abbott was very active in Kairos, a Christian program that was taught in prison chapels. He was a Past President of NH Kairos and presently a member of National Kairos. He had just returned from Atlanta where he instructed teachers to teach Kairos in the prisons there. He was also active in Tres Dias, a Christian retreat program and served as rector of that program last October. Family members include his wife of ten years, Linda (Sprague) Abbott; his parents of Lebanon two sons, Shawn Abbott and Jeremy Abbott of Colorado; a step-son, John Avera of Bedford; two step-daughters Eve Gagne of CT and Sarah Avera of RI; a granddaughter, Sidney Gagne; a brother Clifford Abbott of Lebanon; two sisters, Ellen Daniels of Plainfield and Cheryl Turner of Wilder, VT; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday at 11:00 in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Bedford. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.
