Richard P. Balon, 60, of 1 Shady Lane, Nashua, died March 30, 2000 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. He was born in Manchester on October 29, 1939, the son of Peter and Geraldine (Gleason) Balon and resided earlier in his life in the Dover and Somersworth area. For the past 33 years, he had been a Nashua resident. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force Veteran having served during the Berlin Crisis. For the past ten years, he had been employed with the Nashua Telegraph Newspaper. He was a parishioner of Emaculate Conception Church in Nashua. Family members, in addition to his father of Manchester include his wife of 36 years, Mary E. (Desilets) Balon; a son, Peter Balon of San Francisco, CA; a daughter, Patti Balon of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Bonnie Skillings and Doris Balon-Frost both of Manchester and Brenda Philbin of Auburn; and nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will take place on Monday from 11:00 to 1:30 at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 2:00 PM in St. Joseph Cathedral, Manchester. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family.
