Richard (Dick) G. Brown, 87, peacefully passed away on August 29, 2025 after fighting Parkinson's disease for over 20 years.
Richard was born on 7/20/1938 to Leas (Hudson) Brown and Lorne T. Brown of Rutland, VT. He attended Rutland, VT schools and later the University of Vermont.
During his insurance career, Richard owned one of AFLAC's first insurance agencies and was instrumental in the opening of many offices in the northeast. In his second career, Richard owned and operated a home improvement business for 25 years. Upon his retirement due to Parkinson's, he turned his interests in coin collecting from his 'paper boy' years into dealing in rare coins.
In his spare time, Richard was an avid golfer, sports fan (he coached and managed little league), sailor, ocean cruiser, world traveler, cribbage and poker player and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino He owned and raced thoroughbred horses for a period of time and was also a 50 year lifetime member of the Rutland Elks BPOE #345 and a charter member of the Bedford NH Lions Club. Richard also served in the US Air Force Reserves for several years.
Richard is survived by his wife Margaret (Lawrence) Brown; son Jeffrey Brown and his wife Tammy; grandson Ryan and his wife Kelley; as well as four great grandchildren of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by sisters Lorna Brown Chase of Cookeville, TN and Carole Brown Clifford of Rutland, VT. Richard was cherished by all including many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
