Richard J. "Dick" Carlson, 76 died peacefully in his home on April 16th.
Dick was born on January 8, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Magne and Birgit (Lindberg) Carlson. He lived in the Cleveland area his whole life, moving to Candia in January to be near his family after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was a 1955 graduate of Collinwood High School in Cleveland, married Marion Stanton on December 4, 1965 and earned his BSEE from Cleveland State University in 1966.
He worked for the Cleveland Electrical Illuminating Company for 35 years before retiring in 1993.
Dick was an active member of the Cleveland Engineering Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and his fraternity, Lambda Iota Delta.
Later in life he volunteered as an AARP Tax Aide.
In his younger years, Dick was known as an avid bowler, gardener, photographer and reader. After retirement he devoted more time to golf and traveling. He is fondly remembered for leading family vacations and camping trips with his sons.
He is survived by his sister Jean (Bill) Collister of Painesville; his brother Erick (Marie) of Sweden; his sister-in-law Elinor of Willoughby; his son Richard of Candia, NH; son Carl and his wife, Kathy, of Candia, NH; and his four grandchildren, Samuel, Timothy, Andrew, and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his brothers in-law, Arthur (Joan) Stanton and Robert Stanton; sister in-law, Donna Hatfield and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his wife Marion; brother, Robert and sister, Joan Libertine.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Amoskeag Presbyterian Church, 95 Brook St, Manchester on Wednesday, April 24th at 2:00PM. His Funeral Service will be at 2:30PM in the church. Burial will follow at Holbrook Cemetery, Candia. Everyone is welcome to join the family at the Carlson Home from 5:00 to 7:30PM.
A Memorial gathering is being planned for the Willoughby, Ohio area in August.
