Richard L. Demers, 67, of Manchester died December 9, 2013 at his home with his wife and daughter.

He was born on April 5, 1946 in Manchester, NH the son of the late Albert and Louise (Chabot) Demers. He was raised and educated in Manchester graduating from Bishop Bradley in 1964. He was awarded a football scholarship and went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Northern State University (Aberdeen, SD) in 1973.

He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He served for 4 years, including two tour duties in Vietnam.

Richard began his career in retail management at Osco Drug in 1973. He stayed with the company for 30 years. He then went on to work for Michael's Arts & Crafts in 2003.

He enjoyed going to the beach and traveling around the world with his wife. He liked talking with the locals and learning about history. He loved sports, especially playing football, baseball, softball, golf, billiards, cribbage and boxing. He enjoyed woodworking and working on projects around the house. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

Family members include his wife of 44 years, Michele (Bouton) Demers of Manchester, daughter Beth Demers Zuk of Valley Village, her husband Andrew Zuk and their child, Joselle Zuk. He is also survived by his siblings, Rita (Demers) Royer, Lucille (Demers) Sweeney, Robert and Doris (Demers) Henderson and Roger Demers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Therese (Demers) Shortall, and nephews Steven Royer and Brian Royer.

His Memorial Gathering and Service will be held at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 172 King Street, Boscawen on Monday December 16th from 10:00 to 11:00AM with the service at 10:15AM. Committal prayers with military honors will follow at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen at 11:30AM.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Richard's memory to either The Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center Fund (cancer.dartmouth.edu/dv/support_the_friends.html) or The Semper Fi Fund (semperfifund.org).
