Richard "Dick" Flynn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Flynn on July 4th, 2026, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH. Born on January 3rd, 1943, in Concord, NH, Dick lived a life marked by devotion to his family, a commitment to service, and a passion for the simple joys of life.

Richard was the beloved son of the late Joseph P. Flynn and Edith A. (Nelson) Flynn, who predeceased him. He was the devoted husband to Beverly (Underhill) Flynn, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a strong family foundation and raised three children: Thomas, married to Renee; Jonathan, married to Ginny; and Amy (Flynn) Hall, married to David. Dick took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Jocelyn and Connor, who brought him great joy and fulfillment.

Richard’s early education began at Boscawen Elementary Schools, and he graduated from Penacook High School in 1960. His career path led him to work for the State of New Hampshire’s Department of Transportation as a surveyor. From 1968 to 1970, he served as a State Police Officer for the Department of Safety, returning to the Department of Transportation as Chief Relocation Advisor, a role he held until his retirement in 1999. Beyond his professional life, Dick contributed to his community by serving on the planning board of Hopkinton, NH and he was a proud member of the American Legion.

Dick’s life was enriched by his love for fishing and hunting, pastimes he shared with his sons, ensuring never to miss an opening day. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed the mental challenge of crossword puzzles. A reader of the Concord Monitor from cover to cover, Dick found pleasure in the daily rituals that brought him peace. His life philosophies, captured in sayings like “don’t lose it” and “let’s wait”, reflected the patience and thoughtful nature he embodied.

Every endeavor Dick pursued was approached with meticulous care and dedication. His family was always his priority, and his love for them was evident in every interaction. Known for his generous heart, Dick had a unique ability to make those around him feel included and valued. His legacy is one of steadiness, integrity, and quiet strength that defined him throughout his life.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received. In honor of Richard’s memory, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

There will be no services per his request A family gathering will take place at a later date to celebrate Dick’s life.
