Richard L. Foy

Richard L. Foy of Penacook, NH, passed away surrounded by family on September 2, 2025, at Concord Hospital.

He was born in Concord, NH, on October 15, 1930, the son of Edgar J. Foy and Phyllis W. (Malm) Foy.

Richard graduated from Concord High School in 1949 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the minesweeper USS Pursuit.

After his service, he married the love of his life, Cecily A. (Mills) Foy, and together they raised four children. Richard dedicated his life to his family, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He worked many years at Rumford Press and later retired from Chubb Life. After retirement, Richard continued to serve others through volunteering, lending a helping hand to neighbors, and pursuing his love of woodworking and carpentry. He crafted beautiful furniture for his children, grandchildren, and neighbors—never accepting payment, as his joy came from the process of creating pieces for those he loved. He was a deeply generous man.

In addition to his carpentry and volunteer work, Richard enjoyed sharing stories of his summers at Lake Winnipesaukee, his Navy experiences, and his childhood—especially cherished memories of his grandfather, Leo Malm, a well-known New England craftsman. His gentle spirit and steady presence touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered with deep love and gratitude.

Richard was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Cecily, his parents; his brother, Donald Foy; his sister, Gloria Foss; his son-in-law, Thomas A. Vassillion, Jr.; and his grandson, Brandon S. Currier.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna L. (Tee) Currier of Lexington, SC, Debra S. Vassillion of Warner, NH, and Gayle M. (Tim) Kielwein of South Williamsport, PA; his son, Glenn S. Foy of Belmont, NH; his sister, Carole L. (Foy) Amerosa of Tampa, FL; eight grandchildren, Alicia (Dave) Campbell, Dustin (Emily) Currier, Thomas (Brooke) Vassillion, Stephanie (Matt Colomba) Vassillion, Heather (David) Morrill, Samantha Kielwein (Rob Cusanelli), Jacob (Amanda) Kielwein, and Sadie Kielwein (Tom Criswell); eight great-grandchildren, Tavian, Kylie, Brayden, Edwin, Elowen, Colton, Cecily, and Parker; as well as many nieces and nephews.
