It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of my beloved husband of 47 years, Richard Grobecker, who fought a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Richard is survived by his wife, Dr. Patricia Grobecker; his sons, James and wife Diane of Durham, NH, Michael and wife Joanne of Merrimack, NH; his daughter, Kathleen Coletta and husband Robert of Goffstown, NH; and seven cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Peter Grobecker and wife Elisa of Selkirk, NH, Katie Britton and husband Gerald of Watervliet, NY, Dr. Betsey Grobecker of Buffalo, NY, Lynn Grobecker of Buffalo, NY, Mary Ann Almindo and husband Michael of Fort Myers, FL, Andrew Grobecker and wife Linda of Hoosick Falls, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rich grew up in the Albany, NY area and had a strong sense of patriotism. At 17, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1970 and served until 1974, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. His work as a Supplies Specialist laid the foundation for his meticulous and organized approach to life. As his wife fondly remembers, the household was always well-stocked, never lacking in essentials like paper towels or cleaning supplies.
In 1978, Rich began his career with MCA Distribution as a sales representative, where his hard work and dedication eventually led to his role as VP of Sales and Marketing for Universal Distribution. After nearly 30 years in the music industry, Rich retired but remained active in his community. He worked part-time with Meals on Wheels for five years and continued to volunteer with the Northwood Food Pantry and other local causes.
Rich was a man of few words but immense love and dedication to his family. His devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren was evident in all that he did, especially in the joy he found in introducing his grandchildren to the pleasures of lake life. Whether boating, tubing, swimming, or fishing, Rich cherished the time spent with them.
An avid runner, Rich completed 14 marathons, including three qualifications for and runs in the Boston Marathon. He also enjoyed cycling the back roads and rail trails of New Hampshire. But above all, Rich loved to ride his motorcycles. He preferred the winding, scenic routes, like the Kancamagus Highway through the White Mountains, over faster highways. His annual trips to Laconia’s “Biker’s Week” were a highlight of his year.
Rich was a man who kept his emotions close to the chest, but when it came to his family or colleagues, he was fiercely protective and unafraid to stand up for what he believed was right. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain with us forever.
