Richard F. Ledger, 85, of Manchester died December 26, 2012 at the Elliot Hospital following a period of declining health.

Dick was born on February 9, 1927 in Haverhill, MA the son of Richard and Florence (Wightman) Ledger. He spent his childhood in England, Canada and New England, lived in Georgetown, MA for 30 years before moving to Manchester, NH nearly 30 years ago.

He served in the US Army during World War II, and was a guard at the Nuremburg war trials.

He married Virginia (Ginny) Bradley in 1951, and remained devoted to her until her death in 2003.

Mr. Ledger worked as a pattern maker for various shoe companies in New England, retiring from Stride Rite in 1989.

He was a great listener, and was genuinely interested in the people around him. He would always take the time to visit with everyone he met on his daily walks. When he was younger, he was an avid bicyclist and square dancer. He also enjoyed organic gardening and was very handy with woodworking and electronics.

Surviving family members include his daughter Kathy Drury and her husband Bob of Nashua, his grandchildren, Abby Drury of Amherst, MA and Chris Drury of Nashua; two brothers and sisters-in law Tom and Annette Ledger and Warren and Ruth Ledger of England, and two nieces.

There are no calling hours or services. Donations in Richard's memory can be made to the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Manchester and Southern NH.
