Rita E. Carter

Rita E. (Roukey) Carter, 86, formerly of 4 Pine Hill Avenue, died February 18, 2008 at Hackett Hill Nursing Home. She was born in Manchester on September 18, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Adeline (Bernard) Roukey and had been a lifelong resident of the area. She had worked for First National Stores for a number of years, retiring in 1962. She had been a volunteer caregiver for many years. She was active in St. Edmond Church and later at the Parish of the Transfiguration. She enjoyed playing bingo and cribbage. She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar Carter in 2002 and by her son, Oscar James Carter in 1989. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family members include her daughter, Mrs. Gerard (Fayth) Beland of Manchester; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Avenue on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 at the Parish of the Transfiguration. Encryptment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
