Robert E. Francis, Sr., 87, of 577 Oak Street, died at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in East Boston, MA on March 20, 1915 the son of Anthony and Lillian (Peterson) Francis and had been a Manchester resident for over 40 years. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and was a member of the DAV and the American Legion. He owned and operated Union Waste for many years until his retirement in 1980. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Family members include his wife of 67 years, Ruth (Anderson) Francis; a son, Robert Francis, Jr. of Bedford; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Ruth) Basnar of Candia and Joanne Francis of Hooksett; eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren; a brother, Francis Francis of FL; two sisters, Lillian Fern and Edith McNamara both of MA and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10:00 in St. Catherine Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
