LTC ROBERT E. HARRINGTON

BETHLEHEM, NH -- LTC Robert E. Harrington, U.S. Army Ret., age 76, of Bethlehem, New Hampshire, died March 4, 2006, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Born in Southern Pines, North Carolina on March 31, 1929, Bob was the son of James Elmer Harrington and Berenice (Morrill) Harrington, and the brother of James Elmer Harrington, Jr. He was married to Elizabeth (Jaques) Harrington and had four children, Robert Harrington, Jr. (deceased), Major George Harrington, Susan Sullivan, Katherine Segal, and seven grandchildren, Tim and Jon Harrington, Sam Harrington, Mike, Megan, and Marissa Sullivan, and Robert Segal.

Bob Rebel Harrington graduated from Southern Pines High School and from the University of New Hampshire in 1953 where he was a member of ROTC and the only UNH Football Team that had an undefeated season. He was a veteran of the North Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. His honors include Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Armed Forces Honor Medal and First Class Parachute Badge.

After his retirement, he was a volunteer fire fighter and EMT for the town of Bethlehem. He served on both the Bethlehem and Profile School Boards for over 7 years. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and skiing. He also volunteered for many years at the Broward County Lighthouse in Florida.

SERVICES  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home  Littleton Chapel, 101 Union St., Littleton, NH, with Rev. Fr. John Fleming officiating and Military Honors being presented by the Howard Shawney V.F.W. Post 816. Burial will be in the Maple Street Cemetery in the spring.
