Robert (Bob) Hoglund, 89, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 50 years, Carol (Dooley) Hoglund, whom he lovingly referred to as his “bride” throughout their entire life together.
He was predeceased by his parents Carl (Edwin) Hoglund and Rhoda (Olcott) Hoglund; his older sister, Virginia (Ginny) Swenson and brother-in-law Richard (Dick) Swenson; his brothers-in-law, Arthur Tremblay, John Gately and Bill Gately; and his sister-in-law, Rose Gately.
If you knew Bob, you knew better than to argue a sports stat with him. He had a memory like a steel trap, often quoting obscure facts from decades ago. When the younger generation would skeptically "Google it," they’d quickly learn what the rest of us already knew: Bob was always right. This sharpness served him well at the poker table, where he loved the strategy of the game.
His zest for life was further expressed through his love of boating, travel, good food, and great music. Hand-in-hand, he and his "bride" explored the world, with a special fondness for their ancestral homes in Ireland and Sweden. A lifelong Boston Sports fan, he recently fulfilled a "bucket list" dream by visiting Fenway Park and carving his name inside the iconic Green Monster. He loved telling a story and he never let the literal truth get in the way of a good punchline, famously claiming to have "landed a whale" on a fishing trip, a story his family will cherish and laugh over for generations to come.
Music was always playing in Bob's world. In his final hours, his family kept his favorite songs running as a backdrop to their goodbyes. In a moment of perfect timing, he waited for the very last word of Frank Sinatra’s "My Way" to take his final breath. He lived a full life, and he certainly did it his way.
Bob’s greatest pride was the family he and Carol built. He leaves behind his children: Kathy Fisher (and Kevin Cullen), Colleen Doucette (and Don Doucette), and Michael Hoglund (and Eli Soto-Hoglund), along with his younger sister, Charlotte Tremblay.
He was the world’s best grandfather "Grandpa, Gpa and FaFa" to Samantha Martin, Michelle Dougherty, Taylor Fisher, and Madison Hoglund, and a doting great-grandfather to Kylee Martin.
We’ll be celebrating Bob’s life on May 19, 2026, with calling hours at Phaneuf Funeral Home at 26 Kinsley Street, Nashua, NH, from 9:30-11:30 AM followed by a mass at Immaculate Conception Parish, 216 East Dunstable Rd., Nashua, NH at 12:00 PM. The burial will be at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, 102 Derry Street, Hudson, NH following the mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital Research, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
