Bedford, NH – Robert Parker McGirr, died at the age of 84, after many years of battling Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. He died on Friday, October, 23rd at the Bentley Commons. He was born December 17, 1924 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to Ruth E. and George E. McGirr and lived in Everett, Ma until joining the US Navy in 1942 at the age of 17. He served 3 years and was honorably discharged in February 1946 as an Aviation Ordnanceman, First Class. He attended the University of Massachusetts (Stockbridge School of Agriculture) and worked for Household Finance, Merchants Acceptance Corporation (MAC), Pacific Finance and Associates Financial Services for 32 years in various cities in the Northeast. He served as District Manager for the last 12 years of his employment with them. For the 9 years prior to his retirement in 1991, he was Vice President of Iona Savings Bank in Tilton, NH. During his professional career, he was involved in several service organizations, including the Exchange Club in Auburn and Waterville, Maine as well as the Toastmaster's Club in Auburn, Maine. He was a fanatical golfer for many, many years, also serving as President of the Pheasant Ridge Country Club and was their Club Champion in 1984. He was also an active member of Laconia Country Club for over 16 years. His surviving family members include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth A. (Condon) McGirr, originally from Haverhill, MA and now of Bedford, NH; his three daughters: Kathleen L. McGirr of Milton, MA, Nancy Goslin of Falls Church, VA and Mary Beth McGirr of Moneta, VA; his two sons: Robert W. McGirr of Trabuco Canyon, CA and William G. McGirr of Henniker, NH. He is also survived by 6 grandsons and 2 grand-daughters. A calling hour will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009 from 4:00 – 5:00pm in the Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03104. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 11:00am in the funeral home with an hour of gathering prior. Committal will follow the service in the Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Veteran's Administration, c/o Debra Krinsky, 718 Smyth Road, Manchester, NH 03104 or to the St. Joseph's Church, 40 Court Street, Laconia, NH
