Sgt. 1st Class Robert "Bob" Harold McLaughlin, 40, died unexpectedly at his home in Concord on March 21. He was born in Manchester on Oct. 22, 1975. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Anne McLaughlin and devoted father to their children Brandon Howard and Ivy Howard. He was the son of Mary and Peter McLaughlin of Manchester.
Bob was a soldier in the New Hampshire Army National Guard's 372nd Signal Company and a full-time IT specialist for Joint Force Headquarters in Concord. He was one of the New Hampshire National Guard's premier computer and audio-video specialists whose thoughtful, workman-like approach to his craft earned him a great deal of respect in the organization. Bob had 20 years of military service in the active Army and N.H. Army National Guard, which included three overseas deployments - his last two in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. His military awards include 2 Army Commendation Medals, 4 Army Achievement Medals, 2 Army Good Conduct Medals, 3 Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, the NATO Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Medal.
Bob grew up in Manchester and was a graduate of West High School. He loved video games and working on computers. When he wasn't fixing them at work, he was fixing them for friends and neighbors, a cup of coffee always at the ready.
The family will receive visitors Friday, March 25th 2:00-4:00pm at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester. Interment with military honors will take place Monday, March 28th at 10:00am at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen.
