Robert C. Morse

Robert C. Morse ~ December 27, 1925 - August 25, 2013

of Guilford, Vermont died on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at age 87. His was an exceptional life, full in every sense of the word. Bob was born and raised in Brattleboro on December 27, 1925. He was the son of Carrie Humphrey Morse and Clarence Morse, the 10th of 11 siblings, 9 of whom survived to adulthood. He married to Sylvia Smith Morse on December 28, 1947. Together they raised five children (Sheila, Claire, Dale, Paul, and Charles) and were blessed with wonderful children-in-law, thirteen grandchildren, seven and a third great-grandchildren; and a large number of beloved nieces, nephews and their children. Their family expanded to include hundreds of people who live around the country and the world.

In 1944 Bob graduated from BUHS, president of his class. He served stateside in the USAAF from 1944 to 1946. Upon returning to Brattleboro he worked with his brother at Harry's Auto Body Shop. Later he worked with CVPS Corporation repairing electrical appliances. In 1963 CV transferred Bob to Springfield, Vermont where he later started his own appliance repair service, retiring in 1991. He and Sylvia then operated their Springfield home as a B and B, where Bob was known for his welcoming ways and from which sprang many lasting friendships. In 2006 they moved to Guilford with family.

Bob was an Eagle Scout, then a scout master who co-led his troop on an end-to-end hike of Vermont's Long Trail. In 1954 - 55, with very little assistance, he built a home for his growing family. For many years he was an active member of the Springfield, Vermont United Church of Christ, leaving a legacy of small construction contributions.

In addition to his extensive nuclear family, he is survived by his elder brother, Harry Morse of Vernon, and his sister Marion Bemis of Indianapolis.

A service will be held at the Guilford Community Church, 38 Church St., Guilford, VT, Saturday, August 31st at 1 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Habitat for Humanity which was an organization that Bob supported, to the Guilford Community Church, to the Springfield (Vermont) First Congregational Church, or to charity of your choice.
