ROBERT E. (BOB) PADDOCK, SR.

LITTLETON, NH -- Robert E. (Bob) Paddock, Sr. of Littleton, NH, age 83, died peacefully at home in his sleep on Tuesday after a long illness. Bob was born December 28, 1933 in Worcester, MA and spent his early years in Leicester, MA where he was a three-letter athlete, starring in football, basketball, and baseball before moving on to Leicester Junior College and UMASS Amherst on football scholarships. After two years of college, he decided to enlist in the Marine Corps to join his friends fighting in Korea, but the war ended before he completed basic training. He quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant and led his Camp Geiger football team to an undefeated season in the Marine Corps.

After being honorably discharged from the Marines in 1957, Bob moved into finance, working for several years for Transamerica Finance where he rose to become district manager first for Eastern and Central Massachusetts and Rhode Island, then later Western Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Bob had always loved the White Mountains of New Hampshire and in 1976, he jumped at the chance to move to Littleton where he joined the Littleton Savings Bank. He rose to Senior Vice President in the renamed Dartmouth Savings Bank before moving over and becoming Vice President of the People's Savings Bank. In addition to his successful banking career, Bob was active in the Littleton community. He was a member of the Lions, the Elks, and the Rotary Clubs, as well as serving as the President of the Littleton Chamber of Commerce in the 1970s. He was an early supporter of the Littleton Industrial Development Corporation (LIDC), serving on the original Board of Directors. He volunteered as the Financial Advisor for the North Country YMCA and for several years served as a Trustee of the Trust Fund for Littleton.

Bob spent his leisure time hiking and skiing the White Mountains and just two weeks after retiring from banking at the age of 65, he began his dream job as a certified ski instructor at Bretton Woods Ski Resort, continuing into his 80s.

Bob's wife Margaret "Peggy" (Nolan) Paddock passed away in 2010. He was also predeceased by his mother Pauline (Wiles) Paddock, his father Wallace Earl Paddock, and his two sisters Maxine Malkasian and Judy Russell. He is survived by his son, Bob Paddock, Jr., who is currently assigned to MacDill AFB in Florida, his wife Jane, and their children Ellen, Colleen, Magdelena, Genevieve, Anna, and Joseph; and his daughter, Erin Sweeney of Littleton, her husband Sean, and their children Benjamin and Nolan.
