Robert J. Paul, 81, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at his residence, following a period of declining health.
Mr. Paul was born on October 2, 1927, in Manchester, NH, the son of the late Rosario and Dora (Leblanc) Paul. He was raised in Manchester and attended local schools.
He was an entrepreneur by spirit and owned and operated both the Joy Bar & Restaurant and LPH Coin and Stamp Shop, in Manchester. He later went on to work as a cashier at the Rockingham Race Track and spent many years working as a chef for several local well-known restaurants like the Merrimack Restaurant, Puritan on Elm Street, and the Clam King.
Mr. Paul was an active parishioner of St. Anthony Church, and was a member of the Precious Blood League of 1,000 men. An avid runner, he participated in many local races, winning awards in his age category. He enjoyed freshwater fishing and visiting local flea markets.
Members of his family include; his daughter, Diane T. Steele, of Manchester; and four sons, David T. Paul, of Scarborough, ME; Michael R. Paul, of Manchester; Ronald A. Paul, of North Woodstock, NH; Andrew G. Paul, of Manchester; 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, many nieces and nephews. Mr. Paul was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Arline R. (LâHeureux) Paul who died in 1988.
IN HIS LIFE: His sister, Theresa Rose Hamel, predeceased Robert in 1989.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 25, from 4:00 â 8:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, corner of Union Street, in Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, 10:00 AM at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont Street, in Manchester. Committal prayers and burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, in Manchester.
It has been suggested that those who wish may make memorial gifts to The Precious Blood Monastery, 700 Bridge Street, Manchester, NH 03104, or to The American Red Cross Manchester Chapter, 1800 Elm Street, Manchester, NH 03104, in memory of Mr. Paul.
