He also attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute in Miami FL and Miami University. He enlisted into the Air Force in 1950 where he became a technical instructor. He met and married his beloved wife, Joyce Ann Jackson of Concord, NH on September 29, 1951.

After returning to NH in 1954, he re-enlisted into the NH Air National Guard as an Air Force technician. He was stationed at Grenier Air Force base in Manchester and Peese Air Force base in Portsmouth.

He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sargent in 1975. While in the National Guard he went to night school to pursue his teaching degree. He retired after 25 years of teaching Industrial Arts and was a Drivers Ed instructor for over 20 years.
