Robert F. Woodward, lovingly known as Dad, Woody, Pop, Papa, Bud, and Uncle Buddy by family and friends passed away on October 28, 2023 with his beloved daughter Susan by his side. He is predeceased by his wife Joyce, daughter Patricia, and grandson Zachary.
Woody was born on April 17, 1929 to Frank and Angelina Rocca Woodward in Peterborough, New Hampshire. He attended Conval high school and was a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1950 with a degree in Air Craft Maintenance Engineering. He also attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute in Miami FL and Miami University. He enlisted into the Air Force in 1950 where he became a technical instructor. He met and married his beloved wife, Joyce Ann Jackson of Concord, NH on September 29, 1951.
After returning to NH in 1954, he re-enlisted into the NH Air National Guard as an Air Force technician. He was stationed at Grenier Air Force base in Manchester and Peese Air Force base in Portsmouth.
He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sargent in 1975. While in the National Guard he went to night school to pursue his teaching degree. He retired after 25 years of teaching Industrial Arts and was a Drivers Ed instructor for over 20 years.
Robert and Joyce had 4 children: Robert F. Woodward, Jr and his wife Naty, Sandra Woodward Silakos and her husband Steven, Patricia Lee Woodward and Susan Woodward Chandonnet and her husband Keith. Woody leaves his brother Francis Woodward of Georgia and Fred “Picky” Woodward and his wife Betty of Dublin, NH. Woody was the oldest of 3 brothers. Woody also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and Katie Jo Forman, granddaughter by his choice. We can’t forget his beloved kitty Iggy Tostito. Special thanks to Maria and June, Woody’s caregivers who made his last years colorful and fun. Woody's sense of humor, colorful stories, and generous heart will be missed by all.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 3rd from 5-7pm at The Phaneuf Funeral Home & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester. Interment on Saturday, November 4th at 1pm in Dublin Town Cemetery, Main Street, Dublin, NH. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend.
