Roger A. Becker

Roger Alfred Becker was born on June 26, 1937, in East Orange, New Jersey. He was raised in New Jersey and New York and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, New York, where he played the baritone horn in the marching band. His early jobs included working as a paperboy for the Herald Statesman and as a clerk in a shoe store in Tuckahoe, NY. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now known as Virginia Tech.

Roger joined the US Army and served as an officer in the Signal Corps, being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. In 1964, he married Sara “Sally” Streep, and they shared nearly 60 years together.

Roger had a distinguished career as an electrical engineer in the military-industrial sector. He worked for RCA in Moorestown, NJ, Frequency Engineering Corp in Farmingdale, NJ, Microwave Physics Corporation in Garland, Texas, and Sanders Associates in Nashua, NH, where he managed a research and development engineering department. He also attended Harvard’s Program for Management Development in Cambridge, MA, a six-month live-in program.

After many years of hard work, Roger sought a change of lifestyle. He and his wife bought and operated a working dairy farm in Webster, NH, for almost 10 years. He became active in local politics, serving three terms as a Webster Selectman and remaining involved in town affairs for many years. He was President of the Webster Business and Professional Association and hosted the Olympic team trials for canoe and kayak on the Blackwater River. Roger also served as a Town Administrator for both Webster and Canterbury.

In addition to his civic duties, Roger was Treasurer for the Penacook Rescue Squad for over 34 years. He was a dedicated Mason, serving as Master of Harris Lodge for three years and earning the Major General John Sullivan Medal and the Meritorious Service Award. He achieved the rank of 33rd degree Mason and served on the Board of Evergreen Place (a Masonic assisted living facility) in Manchester for about 10 years, including three years as Chairman of the Board.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sally, his son Randy, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and two grandsons, Jack and Sam. He was predeceased by his daughter Suzanna Lynn, who tragically died in an auto accident at the age of 19.

The family deeply appreciates and thanks the staff at Concord VNA Hospice, as well as other family and friends for their support. A private burial service will be held for the family at a later date.
