ROGER A. PEABODY
FRANCONIA, NH With a fresh snowfall blanketing the mountains he loved, Roger Peabody, Ski Pioneer and Sportsman, quietly passed away on Monday morning, December 20, 2004 at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, at the age of 84, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Roger was born a son to Roland and Nina (Whipple) Peabody on September 10, 1920 in Littleton, NH.
Rogers long career with the ski industry included manager of Franconia Notch State Park following in the steps of his father, Roland, Director of the U.S. Eastern Amateur Ski Association, and culminated with induction into the National Ski Hall of Fame.
Roger was a past member of the Burnss Lodge, Moderator for the Town of Franconia for many years, owner/operator of Six J Lanes, Director of Golf at both Lisbon and Maplewood Country Clubs, and was a driving force in senior golf in the North Country.
Roger leaves his six children; Jere and Nancy Peabody, Jon and Sue Peabody, Joel and Tina Peabody, Janet and Paul Damiano, Jay Peabody, and Jennifer and Rick Gaudette; their respective families; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
SERVICES -- The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 23rd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, NH. Private family services will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Victory Junction Gang Camp 4500 Adams Way, Randleman , NC 27317.
