Roger E. Vincent, 70, of 1 Pine Acres Road, Allenstown, died December 5, 2003 at Catholic Medical Center following a long and courageous Christian battle with cancer. He was born in Manchester on March 26, 1933, the son of Eugene P. and Yvonne (Cloutier) Vincent and had resided in the city for many years before moving to Allenstown in 1966. He graduated from Ste. Marie High School, Class of 1952 and attended St. Anselm College where he was an alumni. While in high school, he was a exceptional athlete and was a four year letterman. He was the # 1 seated high school tennis player in the state. He was the first recipient of the Alpine Club Award for All Star Athletes in 1952 and was inducted into the Catholic Hall of Fame in 1997. He also won many other awards. He served in the New Hampshire Naval Reserve and was a Korean War Army Veteran. For many years, he was a school teacher at Sacred Heart School in Manchester and later at St. Jean the Baptist School in Allenstown. He was also a substitute teacher for the Manchester and Allenstown School Systems. He owned and operated Vincent Insurance Agency from 1961 to 1977. After retirement from the insurance industry, he was a lieutenant with the New Hampshire State Prison for 14 years. He was also salesman with Montgomery Ward until his retirement. He was involved with many organizations where he volunteered his time and had numerous hobbies. He will always be remembered as a pied piper of children. He was a volunteer with the Pine Haven Boys Center in Allenstown where he coached basketball. He also was a basketball coach for Sacred Heart School and St. Jean the Baptist CYO. He was a former chairman of the Bingo Committee at Bishop Brady High School and St. Jean the Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an active parishioner of Ste. Marie Church and was a member of the League of 1000 Men of Precious Blood Monastery. He and his loving wife were inseparable and they traveled throughout the world and took 18 cruises together. They both loved to spend time in Florida and spent 14 summers at their summer house in Hampton Beach. He was an avid coin collector, loved casino gambling and playing pool. He could often be found in the arcades at the beach playing pinball and other arcade games for hours. He often played cards and miniature golf. He was a great sportsman and followed the Red Sox and Patriots. He loved to play all sports. One of his passions was to spend Thursday morning participating with his morning breakfast group. Family members include his wife of 47 years, Lorraine (Leveille) Vincent; a son, Michael C. Vincent of Manchester; a daughter, Ann-Marie Verhey of Salisbury; his six precious grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Joshua, Jessica, Jocelyn and Michael; and his only great grandchild; Cody; his loving brother, Conrad H. Vincent of Manchester; and nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Avenue on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at Noon in Ste. Marie Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
