Rosa Amalia Nolasco, 95, of Manchester, NH, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at her residence in Manchester, NH.
Doña Amalia Nolasco was born on July 13, 1929, in El Progreso, Honduras, the daughter of the late Antonio and Hortencia Nolasco Velasquez. She was married to the late Jorge Alberto Umana.
Since the tender age of 9, with a heart full of sacrificial love, Rosa Amalia Nolasco began her lifelong devotion to family. By fourth grade, she learned how to sew and became a renowned seamstress in La Lima, Honduras, and the surrounding communities. She crafted her daughter-in-law’s wedding dress and would travel to San Pedro Sula to create the dresses for when she visited her granddaughters in Manchester, NH. With each visit, she would grab their waists and measure them with her hands. Her hands wove her love into both exquisite gowns and traditional Honduran dishes—her macheteadas and flour tortillas are forever cherished in memory.
In her later youth, she, alongside her mother, Hortencia (Doña Tencha), supported the upbringing of their larger extended family of nephews and nieces. There were at least nine children in the home at one time, including her own. Doña Amalia Nolasco was an independent, strong, hardworking matriarch. She will be remembered as mother, aunt, great aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Members of her family include her son, Jorge Enrique Umana, and her daughter, Rosa Amalia Umana Diaz. She is the grandmother of Enrique Alberto Umana, Derek Josué Umana, Richelle Ivonne Sanchez, Arleen Roxana Vendrell, and Grace Elizabeth Umana. She is the great-grandmother of Karmyn Raelyn Vendrell, Ana Victoria Umana, Jaelyn Nicole Vendrell, Ellie Maria Umana, Elias Ivan Sanchez Diaz, and Alina Rose Sanchez Diaz.
