Rose Marie Margaret O’Neill-Verney, 69, of Manchester, NH, passed away on September 24, 2026. Born in Springfield, MA on February 8, 1957, she was a daughter of the late William and Marie O’Neill. She shared 46 years of marriage with her husband, Edward Verney and was the mother of Galen Verney and Róisín (Verney) Bettencourt.

Rose was raised in Springfield, MA and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1974. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from American International College and earned two Master’s Degrees from Rivier University. She had a long career in education and had a passion for special education. She worked for the Milford School District as a reading specialist and curriculum coordinator administrator.

Rose and Ed met in college, where they were neighbors in their dormitory. Early in their marriage, they lived in Bridgeport, CT, and later raised their children, Galen and Róisín, in Brookline and Amherst, NH. She loved to experience new places and her travels around the world fulfilled her wanderlust and sense of adventure. She will be remembered as a kindhearted, smart, savvy, and witty woman who cherished her family and friends. Later in life, Rose’s favorite way to spend time was with her grandchildren, Rylan, Maeve, Séamus, and Aoife.

Rose is survived by her husband, Edward Verney of Manchester, NH; her son, Galen Verney and his wife Mackenzie of Merrimack, NH; her daughter, Róisín Bettencourt and her husband Adam of Derry, NH; her sister, Mary O’Neill of Swanee, TN; her grandchildren, Rylan Bettencourt, Maeve Verney, Séamus Verney, and Aoife Verney; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Services for Rose will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 12:30PM-2:30PM with a Memorial Service at 2:30PM. Family and friends are invited to attend. A Celebration of Rosie's life will follow at Stark Brewing Company, 500 N. Commercial Street, Manchester, NH beginning at 3:30PM.
