Rose G. Martel, 95, of Dover died March 18, 2007 at St. Ann Health Care following a period of declining health. Born, Amanda Marie Rose Guilbeault on October 9, 1911 in Allenstown, she was the daughter of Narcisse Victor and Amanda (Courchesne) Guilbeault. Rose was the eldest of a family of ten children. For 87 years, she resided at 22 School Street in Allenstown. She met and married Leo J. Martel who predeceased her in 1984. Together they enjoyed traveling and cruising to Europe making many friends along the way. They where highly involved in the Suncook and Canadian snowshoe organizations and traveled frequently with the group. She was an excellent seamstress and quickly mastered the age-old craft of creating fur clothing. Through an ancient meticulous process and many hours of labor, she produced beautiful fur fashions. She was employed by Furs by Leibler in Concord for over twenty-five years. Rose was a communicant of St. John the Baptist in Suncook for over eighty years. Many of the golden altar linens and vestments used today were handmade by her. She was a member of St Theresa Rosebush Society, The Ladies of St. Anne and the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 2860, Veterans of Foreign War of Suncook Valley. After retirement, Rose continued to knit and crochet many colorful afghans for her family and friends. Family members include; two brothers, Raymond Guilbeault and his wife, Evelyn, of Allenstown and Ernest Guilbeault and his wife, Priscilla, of Hooksett; one sister, Lorraine Pelletier and her husband, Robert, of Hooksett; and many nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by brothers, Rene, Leo, and Eugene Guilbeault and sisters, Albertine Allaire, Dorothy Pelletier, and Jeanne Moisan. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:00 o’clock at St. John the Baptist Church in Suncook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.
