Russell James Holmes (Papa), 62, passed away suddenly at his home in Littleton, NH, Thursday, July 23, 2026. The son of the late Ralph and Barbara Holmes, he was raised in Bethlehem, NH and graduated from Profile High School.
After serving in the US Navy, he worked for WD Matthews as a forklift mechanic. He then carried on his father’s legacy and became co-owner and operator of R&R Fireworks with his wife Ruth Holmes.
If you knew him, you knew his sense of humor. He was a true jokester who loved making people laugh. Whether it was a clever joke, or playful teasing, he had a remarkable ability to brighten someone’s day. He left an impression on everyone he met.
Above all he was a devoted family man whose love, guidance and generosity touched countless lives. His legacy is remarkable with continuing his business of R&R Fireworks for 29 years! He was a man of service, hard work, loyalty, friendship, and unconditional love. He was the proud owner and sponsor for Cahoon Motorsports late model car #83, which competed regularly at White Mountain Motorsports Park.
Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing his spirit lives on every time an American flag waves proudly, an eagle soars overhead, a race car engine comes to life, a fishing line is cast, or fireworks light up the sky.
Russell will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 34 years, Ruth Holmes; his daughter, Nicole Holmes; his daughter, Nikki Lemieux; his son, Ed Marland; his sister, Cindy Holmes; his brother, Bradley Holmes; his grandchildren, Kyle Frazee, Keine Marland, Felicity McNail, Destinie Marland, Cavan Lemieux, Makaylah Morse, Mason Marland, Kaysan Smith, and Matthew McNail; his great grandchildren, Cooper McNail and Isabella McNail.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Nathan Holmes.
Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts. His life was purpose, integrity, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
In accordance with the family's wishes, his services will be held privately.
Assisting the family with arrangements is Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium.
