Russell Edward Torrey, 91, passed away February 28, 2022 at his home in Halifax with his wife beside him Halifax. He was born on June 17, 1930 in Brattleboro to the late Luther P. Torrey and Elsie M.( Nourse) Torrey.
Russell attended Brattleboro Schools. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army, he then served in the Korean War. After the war ended, he went back home to work on his foster parents property (Grant Farm) in Marlboro, VT. Russell then took on jobs with local loggers for years. Russell’s family eventually passed the farm onto him. He took pride in the land. As the years went on he went to work at John MClouds in Wilmington VT.
In October of 1980 he met the love of his life, Ann at church. They were wed in August of 1981 in Maine at Ann’s home. Together with Ann’s children, Keith & Marya they settled into Russell’s home. To Russell, Keith and Marya were his very own. In 1987 Russell welcomed his daughter Hillary (whom he took pride in naming). Eventually Russell moved on to work at & retire from Cersosimo in Brattleboro, VT. In 1993 Russell along with family moved to Halifax,VT where he remained until his death.
Russell attended World Wide Church of God for over 50 Years. His relationship with God was one of the most meaningful things to him. Russell loved the woods, wood working & anything with trees. His advice of how to know your surroundings while in the woods carried on down the family line. He loved playing horseshoes with his brothers. He played softball and volleyball. He enjoyed classical music, Ann’s cooking, sugaring & being outside. Russell loved watching girls basketball & other sports. His huge love was his family & being a father.
In addition to his parents, Russell was predeceased by his foster parents; the Grants, his son Keith & his younger brother Winston Torrey.
Russell is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann of Halifax Vt, his older brother Malcolm (Audrey) Torrey of California, his sister-in-law Nancy Torrey of Winchester N.H, his daughter Hillary Torrey & son-in-law Richard Fisher along with his youngest grandchildren; Stefano & Zueda of Brattlebro. His daughter Marya B. & grandchildren; Rachelle, Frank & Kamryn of Bennington.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Those who wish to make a memorial donation may do so to Ann Torrey, 1357 Hanson Rd, Brattleboro VT.
