Ruth Eleanor LaRose

Ruth Rosie Eleanor LaRose, 76, died peacefully on December 6, 2009 at Littleton Regional Hospital. Rosie was born on December 5, 1933 in Rochester, Vermont. She attended Mary Fletcher Nursing School (now part of Fletcher Allen Hospital), graduating in 1953.

While in nursing school Rosie met her husband, Joseph C. LaRose on a blind date on Valentines Day. The pair was married on July 24, 1954.

In 1957 they moved with their infant son, Gary, to Littleton and Rosie began her 49 year career as a nurse at Littleton Regional Hospital. They settled into their home on Meadow Street in Littleton and soon three sons, Brian, Steven and James and daughter, Linda were added to the family.

During her career at Littleton Regional Hospital, Rosie worked in virtually every area of the hospital, settling in the OB department where she assisted with over 1350 births, spanning three generations. Her warmth and care as she assisted mothers giving birth and reassured fathers-to-be were appreciated by the parents, their families and fellow staff members.

In 1984 Rosie was acknowledged by her co-workers and hospital administration, becoming the first Employee of the Year at Littleton Regional Hospital.

Rosie took care of her co-workers at LRH as well, coordinating the development of Helping Hands, a fund created to assist LRH employees during periods of financial crisis. Through her many craft creations, organization of raffles and sales, Rosie was instrumental in raising thousands of dollars that were then dispersed to her co-workers during times of need. Hundreds of people were, and continue to be, assisted through her generosity of time and spirit.

In addition to her craft enterprises for Helping Hands, Rosie was a gifted gardener, growing beautiful displays of perennials and vegetables enough to preserve and share with family and friends. She was always on the lookout for a bargain opportunity and reached professional status in the yard sale Hall of Fame as an avid collector of potential treasures.

Over the years, Rosie and Joes family continued to grow with the marriages of their children and the births of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The couple was well known as Grammy Rosie and Grandpa Joe to the children of numerous families in the community whose lives they touched.

Rosies family includes her loving husband, Joseph and their children: son Gary, his wife Bonnie and their daughter Sarah; son Brian, his wife Sharry and their sons Brian, Jr., Derek (deceased 2008) and Gregory as well as their grandsons Nicholas Ryan, Nicholas James and their granddaughter Kadence; son Steven, his wife Ellen and their children Erin and Michael; daughter Linda (Gilmore) and her husband Will and their children Kyllan and Tiegan; and son James, his wife Sonya and their children Ethan and Isaac.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 19 at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church in Littleton. A light luncheon will follow immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall.

The family requests that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the LRH Charitable Foundation, 600 St. Johnsbury Road, Littleton, NH 03561 or may be made online at www.littletonhospital.org to support LRH Helping Hands, a fund established to help LRH employees in need. This fund was originally established by Rosie and meant a great deal to her and her family members. Arrangements have been entrusted to Keller & Pillsbury Funeral Homes.
