Ruth S. Plate, 90, of Littleton, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She was born July 4, 1919 in Milwaukee, WI to Lawrence and Frances (Ertlemeyer) Schwaab, Ruth graduated from Plymouth, WI High School and the business college in WI, Class of 1939. She married William L. Plate of Milwaukee, WI on December 23, 1941. He predeceased her on April 25, 2000.

After graduation from the business school, she worked as a clerk/stenographer for the civil service group of the U.S Corp of Army Engineers, initially in Milwaukee, but later in Denver, CO where she followed her husband as he attended the University of Colorado. Following his graduation, she became predominantly a homemaker as they returned to Milwaukee for two years and then Massachusetts for the next nearly twenty years. They moved back to Milwaukee with Bills transfer for nine years and then to Sarasota, FL for their retirement in 1980. Ruth moved to Bethlehem in 2001 to be near her family shortly after her husbands death and then to Littleton in 2007.

Ruth enjoyed golfing, fly fishing, and various forms of sewing. She was a volunteer at the Needham, MA hospital and also more recently for the Meals on Wheels while living in Bethlehem. Throughout all her geographical moves, she has been an active participant in catholic womens groups. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Church.

Ruth is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Plate of Franconia, sister, Virginia Schwaab of Plymouth, WI, grandchildren, Bruce Plate of Belchertown, MA, Barbara Pliska of Hadley, MA, Michael Plate of Acton, MA and Gregory Plate of Franconia as well as six great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, February 23rd at 1:00 PM at St. Rose of Lima Church with Rev. Fr. Marcel Martel officiating with a reception to follow in the churchs hall. Interment will be July 6, 2010 at 11am in the Maple Street Cemetery, Bethlehem. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, c/o St. Rose of Lima.
