Sally Jane Marr, 79, of Concord, NH passed away on July 27, 2023 unexpectedly.
Sally was born on March 7, 1944 to Walter and Effie Carey in Moline, Illinois. She graduated from Moline High School in 1962, and married the love of her life, Galen Marr August 22, 1964.
Sally and Galen lived an adventure filled life having lived in Moscow Idaho, Grand Canyon National Park Arizona, Whiskeytown Recreational Area California, Petrified Forest National Park Arizona, Everglades National Park Florida, and Merrimack New Hampshire before moving back to Moline, Illinois where they took care of Galen’s father until he passed. Shortly after her husband of 48 years passed away, Sally moved back to New Hampshire, the place she loved the most.
In New Hampshire she could visit the ocean and the mountains both of which she found beauty and joy. Unlike most of us she greatly appreciated a good New England snowstorm or any wild weather that may come her way. In her later years Sally became involved in her church, Contoocook United Methodist Church where she made many great friends who she enjoyed visiting and traveling with.
Always keeping active and aligned with her somewhat stealthy competitive spirit, Sally became a pickleball aficionado and enjoyed the friends she made on the court. Even though retired, Sally always enjoyed learning and challenging herself with new skills and talents, teaching herself to play the piano, guitar, and American sign language.
One of Sally’s greatest joys was vacationing with the entire family almost every summer on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Sally would often be found on the decks of the beach house looking out onto the Atlantic Ocean and smiling, or you could find her on the beach playing paddle ball, or in the case of this past vacation playing spike ball with her grandchildren. The many dogs in the Marr family will miss her as she was loved by them all and known to be able to outwalk any of them. Known for her sweet and generous nature, Sally was also known for her baking skills and was notorious for wooing friends, family and even the local mechanic shop with her cinnamon rolls and Texas fudge cake.
Sally was predeceased by her husband Galen and is survived by her brother Curt Carey of Colorado, her oldest son Jon Marr (wife Anne, grandson Nathan and his wife Katie, granddaughter Carey), her daughter Jennifer Hauschulz (husband Rene, grandson Robert Webb wife Brittany, great grandchildren Luke, Cael, Ryder, and Raelynn, and granddaughter Rhiannon), son Peter Marr (wife Heather, grandchildren Ellie and Camden), son Phillip Marr (wife Erin, grandson Caleb).
Services will be held at Phaneuf Funeral Home on Friday, August 18th from 10 AM – 12 PM, with services beginning at 11:00 AM at 172 King St. in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Pope Memorial SPCA (Concord Animal Shelter).
