Sean Joseph Moran

Sean Joseph Moran, 59, of Derry, NH, passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, on November 27th, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

Sean was born in Stoneham, MA on July 21st, 1953, the son of Elaine (Streeter) Moran of Clifton Park, NY and the late Joseph Moran. Sean grew up in the Albany, NY area where he graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1971 as a football and hockey standout. Mr. Moran attended Norwich University in Northfield, VT and graduated in May of 1975 with a bachelor's of science degree in Business. He was an All-American Football star at Norwich and was inducted into the University Hall of Fame in 1983. Sean was a true leader, both on and off the field, throughout his life.

After graduation from Norwich University, Sean worked for the Ford Motor Company at plants in both Albany, NY and Flint, MI. He married the former Lindsay Jo Katz in 1979. They moved to Derry, NH in 1984 where he began his career with the Raytheon Corporation in Andover, MA. Since that time, he has worked on both the Hawk and Patriot Missile programs as a production and quality control manager. During his time with Raytheon, Mr. Moran was tasked with three demanding assignments in the Middle-East in support of U.S. foreign military programs. Sean was currently the Hawk Project Lead.

Sean was extremely involved with his community as he coached both the hockey and football teams at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH. He was active with the woman's lacrosse programs as an official and volunteered at the state woman's gymnastic meet for many years. His passion for hockey kept him playing on numerous teams and leagues throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts even after being diagnosed with his illness. Sean was an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge. He enjoyed fishing and loved being on the water, whether it be a lake or the ocean.

Sean was a devoted husband, father, son and brother and leaves his beloved wife of 33 years, Lindsay (Katz) Moran of Derry, NH, and ,his loving daughter, Meagan Moran. He also leaves six sisters, Elizabeth (Moran) Strouse of FL, Karen (Moran) Foust and Patricia Moran both of NY, Maureen Moran of ME, Diane Moran and Linda Moran both of NY; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was a selfless friend and a willing mentor. He will be missed by all he touched..

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 2nd 2012, at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester, NH from 3pm to 7pm. A short tribute to Sean will be held at 6pm. Additional information and directions are available at www.phaneuf.net.

A Mass of Christian Burial with be held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 187 Hampstead Rd., Derry, NH at 10 AM on Monday, December 3rd 2012. Interment at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Derry, NH will follow the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mr. Moran may be made to support genitourinary cancer research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, under the direction of Dr. Richard J. Lee.
