Shirley R. Newell

Shirley R. (Philbrick) Newell, 81, of Manchester, NH died on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at her residence following a brief illness.

Mrs. Newell was born on July 9, 1938, in Manchester, NH, the daughter of the late George and Georgina (Deveau) Philbrick. She was a lifelong resident of Manchester.

Shirley was a devout Christian and an avid volunteer for many charitable organizations throughout her lifetime, including The Eastern Star, Brookside Congregational Church, Elliot Hospital, and the Food Pantry. Shirley enjoyed travel with friends and family, laughing over card and board games, sewing, crafts, and she always treasured time visiting with her family and friends.

Members of her family include; her sons, Leonard C. Newell, Jr and his wife Jo, of Amherst, NH; Christopher Newell and his wife, Kimberly of Manchester, NH; daughter, Katherine Romer and her husband, Ron of Contoocook, NH; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard C. Newell, Sr. and by her oldest daughter, Cynthia Sexton, as well as her parents and siblings.

SERVICES: Per Shirley's wishes, there are no calling hours or services planned; a celebration of life with friends and family will be held in late spring.
