Sophia G. (Basbas) Patsalis, of Manchester, died April 20, 2004 at Catholic Medical Center following a short illness. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of George and Rose (Economou) Basbas and was a lifelong resident of Manchester and Hampton Beach. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and an active member of the Daughters of Penelope, promoting Hellenic culture and community involvement. She had been the organizations President, Secretary and the First District Governess for Northern New England and was the recipient of the DOP Woman of the Year Award. Mrs. Patsalis served on many boards and committees over the years and held membership in the Business and Professional Womens Club, the Anagennesis Society, the NOA Club and the Community Concerts Association. She was a lifelong volunteer in many charitable and social organizations and was predominately involved in local, state and national Republican political group action. In Her Life: She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing bridge, entertaining, dancing and traveling with here husband during their long married life. She also cherished her time spent with her only grandchild, Karl. She had been married for 60 years until the death of her husband, Telemache Patsalis who predeceased her in 1999. Family members include her son, Paul N. Patsalis of Rochester, a daughter, Marcia R. Klingebiel of Hopkinton, her grandson; two brothers, the Honorable Monte G. Basbas of Wayland, MA and Robert G. Basbas of Corona, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Friday from 4 to 8 PM with the Trisageon Service will take place in the funeral home at 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
