Sophie Sue (Raptis) Gimas, 81, formerly of 116 Portsmouth Avenue, died January 13, 2006 at Villa Crest Nursing Home. Born in Manchester on June 21, 1924, she was the daughter of John and Anastasia (Angelis) Raptis and had been a lifelong resident of the city. She was the widow of John Gimas who died in 1996. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. Earlier in her life, she belonged to the Assumption Greek Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. In Her Life: Family members include her son, John Gimas of Manchester; two daughters, June Vailas of Bedford and Tina Gimas of New York City, NY; four grandchildren all of Bedford, Stephanie, Christina, Matthew and Nicholas Vailas; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. The Trisageon Service will take place in the funeral home on Monday evening at 5:30 PM. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday morning at 10:00 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
