Sophie Kyratzis Konides, 87, of Walnut Cove, NC, died August 24, 2018. Sophie was born in Nashua, NH, on February 27, 1931, the eldest daughter of four children of George and Soultana Kyratzis. She graduated from Franklin High School in Franklin, NH. Sophie married her husband, James Anthony Konides, in 1953 in Manchester, NH. She worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut until she left work to raise her family in North Palm Beach, Florida. Sophie enjoyed playing bridge and bowling with the ladies, taking her children to the beach, and walking with her close neighborhood friends, Polly and Sue. Sophie and Jim retired to Almond, NC where they spoiled their ten grandchildren with treasured memories of swimming in the pond and creek and formed lasting friendships on Panther Creek Road. "Owa" always had her Greek treats and delicious blueberry muffins ready for visitors. Most mornings you would find her happily working in her garden. Sophie found light and laughter in everything she did, bringing joy to all her family and friends over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; three children, Carol (and Mark) Lenzen, Jim (and Nancy) Konides, Amy (and Kenny) Smith; grandchildren Nicole, Luke (and Patti), Katie, Andy (and Tory), Emily (and Eric), Kendall, Allison, Ben, Jodi and Connor; adorable great-grandchildren, Garrett and John; her sister, Dorothy Chakas and many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.
