STANFORD RUSSELL JOHNSON
GROVETON, NH -- Stanford Russell Johnson passed away peacefully at Weeks Medical Center on Monday, July 3, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Groveton, NH on February 17, 1927.
Stanford graduated from Groveton High School. He joined the Navy in 1945 and served until 1952. He was stationed on the USS Midway traveling from Iceland to the Panama Canal. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Groveton to work in the Post Office where he became Postmaster, retiring in 1989. He also worked part-time doing income taxes and for the school district as their bookkeeper. In addition, he served as a Director for the Lancaster Fair for 50 years for which he was honored by the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce earlier this year.
Stanford was predeceased by his wife, Beverly (Rolfe) Johnson in January 2017. He is survived by his two daughters, Lorna Jewell and Holly Jamison (George) who loved him dearly. He is also survived by three devoted grandchildren, Erika (Jewell) LeClair (Jesse) Evan Jewell (Melissa) and Carissa Jamison. He also has three treasured great grandchildren, Elle and Emery LeClair and Samuel Jewell. In addition, he was blessed to have nieces and nephews who loved and cherished him. Jana St. Germain and Vicky Patten especially were constantly there for him during his last remaining months. He was surrounded by a loving and caring community in Groveton - Mary Beth and Toby Kennison, Jim Perkins, John, Dick and Bobby Hart as well as many other devoted friends, neighbors and acquaintances who looked out for him.
Stanford was well-known and loved by so many. His happy, adventurous and witty spirit will be missed, but not forgotten.
SERVICES â A Memorial Service will be held at the Groveton United Methodist Church on July 29th at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Patricia Williams officiating.
