Theodore "Ted" Demetrakopoulos, 90, passed away peacefully September 12, 2012 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Manchester on September 12, 1922, the son of Arthur and Athena (Fouchos) Demetrakopoulos and was educated in the Manchester school system.
Ted enlisted into the US Army during World War II and served with Patton's 3rd Army in Europe.
Upon his return from the war, he moved to Newport, NH where her met and married Christine Miller, daughter of Angelo and Jenny Miller. Ted and Christine later bought the Newport Café which they renamed Ted's Restaurant and operated it until the mid 1980's at which time they moved to Hooksett, NH. Then Ted began working at General Electric.
Ted had been a resident of the Hillsborough County Nursing Home for the past three years. He was one of the founders of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Newport, NH and served as its president for many years.
He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post # 25 in Newport and was recently recognized for his 60 years of membership.
Ted was also a 50 year member of the Order of AHEPA Chapter #4 of Manchester, NH and a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding service and dedication to the community from St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
Surviving family members include his three daughters, Cheryl Athanas and her husband William of Bedford, NH, Diane Miminos and her husband Nick of Andover, MA and Brenda Perry of Bedford, NH; four grandchildren; Christopher Athanas and his wife Nicole of Merrimack, NH, Jonathan Athanas and his wife Thea of Chelmsford, MA, Nicholas Miminos of Burlington, MA and Alexis Derksen and her husband Dr. Richard Derksen of Dallas, TX; two great grandchildren Isabella and Sophia; two sisters, Bessie Juris and her husband Alki of Franklin, NH and Eva Gianakos of Clarkston, MI; a sister in-law and brother in-law, Elizabeth and Dr. Samuel Kouchalakos of Nashua, NH and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Christine (Miller) Demetrakopoulos who died in 2006.
