Thomas R. Downie, 55, of 20 Cortland Avenue, Litchfield, died November 22, 2003 at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA. He was born in Manchester on October 27, 1948, the son of the late Alton Downie and Pauline (Smith) Downie of Manchester and had been a resident of the Manchester and Litchfield area throughout his life. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of New Hampshire College (Southern New Hampshire University) with a B.S. Degree in Computer Science. He was currently employed as a senior systems analyst with the State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, where he had worked for the past eight years. Prior to that, he had worked for Nashua Corp, Computer Associates and Purity Supreme. He was very active with the Manchester Muchachos as a drum instructor and also as a drummer in their marching band. He had also been active with the Muchachos as a youth and was one of the individuals that was instrumental in bringing the organization back to the area. He was a HO Scale Model Railroad enthusiast. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Family members, in addition to his mother, include his wife of 7 years, Muriel (Michaud) Downie; two daughters, Michelle Downie of Manchester and Melissa Downie of Hudson; a step-daughter, Stephanie Reisher of Manchester; one grandson, Chandler Reisher of Manchester; a step-son, Rodney Raiche of Manchester; two sisters, Linda Couture and Carol Cote, both of Manchester; a brother, Robert Downie of Epping; and several nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday morning at 10:00 in Grace Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
