Valerie Diceson-Lewis of Amherst, NH; died February 9, 2005 at her home after battling a lengthy illness. Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her parents Edward and Joan Diceson. She was born in New Hyde Park, NY and raised in Stoneybrook, Long Island, NY. She graduated from Ward Melville High School and attended Saint Johns University in New York City. From Saint Johns, she followed her father into the advertising industry by joining the internationally renowned firm of Young and Rubicam where she worked as an account representative. She expanded her career by becoming the Media Director at the advertising firm of Mc Caffery and Ratner working directly for Sam Ratner. Valerie left there and spent a period of time at Lebhar-Freidman before joining McGraw Hill where she was able to generate the greatest single month of revenue in their history to that date. She left Mc Graw Hill to establish a new subsidiary in the United States for an off shore carpet manufacturer. When she left to become a full time mother she had risen to the position of Global Marketing Director for the parent company. Valerie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. Her greatest joy was to watch the growth of her son as he changed from a child into a young man. She had the pleasure to be a classroom mother, run a Junior Achievement program, and coach her sons OM team. She enjoyed art, antique jewelry, the opera, classical music, decorating , vacationing with her family at the ocean in Maine and spending time with her best friend Michelle. She served as a member of the Amherst School District Ways and Means Committee. She also volunteered as a case manager for CASA. Surviving family members include her husband of sixteen years, Steven to whom she gave a new found love of arts, culture and the finer things life has to offer; and son Devin a kind noble young man who has been forced to grow up a little too soon. She will always be very sadly missed and be remembered as a strong, determined, honorable, loving, fine human being.
